Less production in the DO Navarra

La DO Navarre The vintage ends with a decrease in production, lower than forecast at the beginning of the campaign. The harvested varieties have been, in white, Chardonnay, Viura, Small Grain Muscat, Sauvignon Blanc, Garnacha Blanca and Malvasía. These represent the 10%. In varieties inks, Tempranillo, Garnacha, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah, Graciano, Mazuelo and Pinot Noir. The descent is the 13% less with respect to the average of the harvests of the Region. Compared to last year, it has been a 30% lower, since it was an especially abundant campaign.

La primary reason is that the berries of the bunches have had a lower weight than expected. On the other hand, the vintage has been starred by 2.000 winegrowers and 89 wineries located in the 116 municipalities that make up the 10.500 hectares of the wine-growing map of the DO Navarre. The campaign began in the last days of August and has continued until the end of October, as is customary in the Denomination of Origin Navarra.

A grape with impeccable sanitary status in the DO Navarra

All the weather conditions they have been flattering until the end of the cycle. The marked thermal difference between day and night or the low rainfall are conditions that have allowed the harvest to have been staggered and at the optimum time.

“We have lived a vintage traditional in our land and we have picked an excellent grape. We are fortunate to have a privileged location for production. In one of the northernmost areas of the Iberian Peninsula that offers us freshness and sufficient acidity to achieve great wines. We are waiting to enjoy the results of this new vintage ”, comments the president of the Regulatory Council DO Navarra, David Palacios.

Small berries and impeccable sanitary condition of the grape presage the elaboration of wines with a concentration of very high qualities with many possibilities for aging.
