Organic Tempranillo 2018 and Organic Verdejo 2019 will be the first organic wines of the well-known family of Protos Wineries, founded in Ribera del Duero. In this way, you can already market a red wine and a white wine in the organic segment. According to the winery itself, these wines are only the beginning until Protos produces 100% of the wine in this way. Your goal is to meet that challenge with the bottles of the vintage 2021. With this commitment to organic wines, Protos Wineries puts more emphasis on your commitment to sustainability. It does so with the elaboration of its wines, but also with the impulse of self-consumption of photovoltaic energy and complementing it with the green consumption of energy until you complete your need.

Also with the responsible use of water, using a reduced irrigation dosage. All this seeks, in addition to efficiency, a certain degree of water stress in the vine, by pursuing low yields to improve the grape quality.

Protos Wineries is a leading winery in Spain, which was founded in 1927 and throughout its history has bet on quality in its wines, which have also been awarded. It currently has two wineries that can be visited: one in Peñafiel (Valladolid) in the Denomination of Origin Ribera del Duero and another in the town of La Seca (Valladolid) in the Designation of Origin Wheel.

Organic Protos Tempranillo 2018

In the tasting notes of the 2018 organic Protos Tempranillo highlights its cherry red color with violet hues. On the nose, fresh, highlights the red and black fruit, accompanied by spicy notes and light tones of toast and cocoa, from the fine woods. In the mouth it is a round, fresh, silky, balanced wine and with very pleasant soft tannins.

It has a characteristic straw yellow color with greenish nuances characteristic of the variety. On the nose, it has an aroma of medium-high intensity and somewhat fresher than the traditional Verdejo, highlighting the Citrus, Together with the apple and typical herbs from Verdejo. In the mouth, it is a wine with good acidity that gives it freshness, dry, with the roundness and structure provided by the two-month aging on fine lees. It has a slight bitterness, persistent and with a good aftertaste, in which the apple and herbaceous come out again.

Vegan-friendly wines

Both organic wines from Protos Wineries are also vegan wines, that is to say, wines in which no animal component has been used in their elaboration. This topic is striking and curious for many because no one thinks that ingredients of animal origin can be used in the elaboration of a wine. It all comes in the components that are used for the clarification of wine.

Originally egg whites (albumin), also the casein of milk and other components of Animal origin they are used to carry out this clarification. For the vegan market these components are prohibited and are replaced by products of origin vegetable, especially some originating from algae or vegetable proteins.

More and more consumers are opting for this type of wine as a philosophy of life. These are increasing your sales and they start to be much interest by processors who previously did not appreciate this market segment. Already exist in Europe some certifiers specialized in seals that guarantee that the wine has not been made with animal products at any time.

 

Organic wine and the future

Currently, only in Spain there are already more than a thousand wineries that elaborate and commercialize some ecological wine. The extension of the organic vineyard exceeds 110 thousand hectares in Spain. Consumption, although still in low percentages, increases significantly each year and has doubled in the last six years.

Although in Europe it is understood as organic the cultivation of grapes in an ecological way and later its elaboration as organic wine, in United States distinguish the wine made with organic grapes from the so-called "organic" wine, that besides does not contain sulfites.
