Now you can take the container to the supermarket.

Thanks to Royal Decree on Packaging and Packaging Waste, approved on December 27, 2022, now you can take the container to the supermarket.

This new regulation, which came into force at the beginning of 2023, aims to reduce the use of plastic and non-reusable packaging. For this reason, the Royal Decree specifies the following: "All food establishments that sell food and beverages in bulk must accept the use of reusable containers (bags, lunch boxes, bottles, among others) suitable for the nature of the product purchased."

Also, the Royal Decree warns that businesses may reject this reusable container if it is dirty or not suitable.

What type of packaging should be used?

Not all containers are equally usable, especially for preserving meat or fish. It is recommended to use containers for food use. This information can be verified in the pictograms printed on the packaging. If a glass and a cutlery appear, it means that it can be used to store food. In addition, these drawings also indicate whether the packaging material is microwave and dishwasher safe.

Regarding materials, plastic containers are more porous and suffer greater wear than glass. They are also lighter, which makes it one of the most common packages used by society. Glass weighs more and is more fragile (quite likely to break if hit or dropped), but its advantages are better, more hygienic and more durable. Steel containers are also a good option since they weigh little and are not very porous.

In conclusion, the most important thing is not to use containers that are poorly washed and always disinfect them in the best way.
