The consumption of olive oil decreases due to the increase in the price

Due to the inflation suffered by the country, 83% of Spaniards acknowledge that the consumption of olive oil has decreased. It must be remembered that during the last year, olive oil was gaining positions in the European market. According to Appinio, a platform that investigates the market, the Spanish have also reduced the consumption of fish and shellfish, fruit, vegetables and meat.

The rise in prices has generated changes in the purchasing habits of food and beverages in Spain. The beverage sector has also been affected, prices have increased on all beverages, including alcoholic ones.

As for food, pasta, eggs, fruits and vegetables are the foods that Spaniards consume the most. Despite the decrease in the consumption of olive oil, it continues to be one of the most present products in the shopping basket, 89% of Spaniards consider it necessary.

Physical stores and eating out.

The Appinio study also reveals that 80% of Spaniards prefer to buy physically, and only 8% do so regularly online. Supermarkets, hypermarkets and neighborhood stores are the most common options for consumers.

Eating out of the home has become commonplace for some Spaniards, the analysis shows that more than half of Spaniards eat out at least once a week. Although, 73% of those surveyed prefer to cook and eat at home.
