International Rum Congress

El International Rum Congress It is the oldest of the spirits congresses in Spain. It celebrated its seventh edition this week in the capital, bringing together professionals and lovers of this drink. In a great exhibition, training and contest, the party was total.

At International Rum Congress The best rums were awarded among the more than 250 presented. We will highlight the winners of double gold in each category. Especially the best rums. They are the Panamanian 1914, in the rum category and the Chantal Comte L Tour de L'Or 2005, in the agricultural rum category.

International Rum Congress

During the congress the rum was presented Sister Isles, an English-style Caribbean rum. Its elaboration ends in Spain with six months in French oak barrels. These are the ones used for wine from Sirah full DO Ribera del Duero.

We are also surprised by a Japanese rum, the Nine leaves, with two types. One with double distillation and aged in barrels of Cabernet Sauvignon from Napa Valley (California). Another aged for 8 years and finished for two in Pedro Ximénez barrels and one year in bourbon barrels.

Then, the one that has been awarded as the best bottle stands out by design, the Kong, a Hispanic-style rum distilled in Guatemala. Aged 9 years in American oak barrels, its particularity is in the ingredients.

They are what gorillas usually eat. The banana, the bamboo or the blackberries. In addition to celery, eucalyptus leaves and sugar cane. Everything gives it a special herbal aroma. What's more Kong is part of a solidarity project to protect the gorillas of Uganda.
