The European Union has approved the new regulation for quality seals that protect European agri-food products. In this way, the Protected Denominations of Origin (PDO), the Protected Geographical Indications (PGI) as well as the Traditional Specialties Guaranteed (TSG) will be protected as intellectual property rights.

These quality seals will protect the production of more than 300 thousand farmers in Spain. Currently, Spain is the third country with these quality seals behind Italy and France. In Spain alone they cover 381 differentiated agri-food products. They mainly represent products such as wines, cheeses, oils, meats, legumes, and distillates with a value of more than 7 billion annually.
