Wild meat to conserve nature

Wild meat

As every year, after the summer the hunting season begins in our country. An activity that contributes positively to the maintenance and care of the environment. Because it is key both for the protection of fauna and for the conservation of natural heritage. As simple as that.

Wild meat

In fact, the agro-industrial sector of Wild Meat is based on a natural resource that, managed in a sustainable way, is a fundamental instrument for the promotion of biodiversity.

This is recognized, among others, by organizations such as the European Union or the Council of Europe. Also the International Union for the Conservation of Nature or BirdLife International. Everyone considers that this activity can become a fundamental tool. Vital for the conservation, management and protection of nature.

Conservation of fauna

The production of Wild Meat contributes to the conservation of ecosystems. It positively impacts the survival of many species both suitable for hunting and many others that are not.

The Wild Meat sector generates a population balance of game species. This encourages their conservation, prevents overpopulation and improves their health.

In addition, the commitment of the different agents linked to the activity is remarkable. This is demonstrated by a study by the Artemisan Foundation. This reflects that “33% of the reserve owners of Spain actively participate in species conservation programs. Also in programs for the recovery of the Iberian imperial eagle or the Iberian lynx ”.

Key in the protection of natural heritage

Wild Game Meat also plays an important role in the conservation and promotion of the natural heritage. In fact, some National Parks and most of the protected areas of our country were hunting reserves in their origins. Now, they are still made up of hunting grounds today.

In this way, the sustainable use of game species managed to generate places of high ecological value. For example, the Picos de Europa National Park, Sierra de Gredos, Doñana, Monfragüe or Cabañeros, among others.

Since then, the Wild Meat sector has remained linked to the conservation of the natural heritage. Another study by the Artemisan Foundation shows that 36% of reserve owners and 46% of professionals who manage hunting grounds in Spain allocate a total of 233 million euros per year to reforestation and other investments in environmental conservation.

Similarly, there are 54 million euros in maintenance of accesses, construction of swamps and firebreaks. Also in the cleaning of the forest masses and other improvements of the mountain.

In this context and with the aim of making known the benefits of Spanish Wild Meat in the environmental environment in which it is produced, the Interprofessional Association of Wild Game Meat (ASICCAZA) has launched "Wild Meat of Europe, Nature in its purest form ”, an ambitious promotion plan endorsed by the European Union.

The objective of this campaign is twofold. On the one hand, increase the awareness of this meat among national consumers. On the other hand, to position it in the French market as a natural, high-quality product. It is intended to raise awareness of its high production standards and submission to strict food safety.
