Alcampo and its sustainable tuna

supermarket chain To field has launched the first own-brand canned tuna from sustainable fishing on the Spanish market. It does so with the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) organization and under its certification.

With a tripack format, it is a canned tuna with sunflower oil. With this own-brand product, it is the first distributor to do so with the sustainable fishing seal and joins some of the leading brands on the market.

The skipjack tuna (Katsuwonus pelamis) in the can is sourced from the skipjack tuna fishery in the Indian Ocean. It has been captured by the boats of the Basque company Pesqueras Echebastar. This Bermeo-based company obtained MSC sustainable fishing certification in 2018. It consists of six purse-seine vessels that land the tuna they catch in the Seychelles and elsewhere in the Indian Ocean. Its certification covers all the skipjack tuna catches of the fleet.
