Priorat winery has presented this 4 new villa wines in a ceremony held in the refectory of the Cartuja de Escaladei. The presentation is part of the events of the 10th anniversary of the merger of the cooperatives. After the presentation of the new promotional video on the Vinícola, the tasting of the 4 villa wines began. They are La Vilella Baixa 2016, La Vilella Alta 2016, El Lloar 2016 and Gratallops 2016.
100% Cariñena in the case of La Vilella Baixa and El Lloar. A blend of Garnacha and Cariñena in the case of the other two references. The tasting was guided by Sandra Estévez, winemaker at Vinícola del Priorat. Also by Toni Alcover, oenologist and professor at the Jaume Ciurana School of Oenology in Falset (Tarragona).
Once the tasting of the 4 villa wines was finished, the event was used to advance another of the new projects of the Vinícola. It was the presentation of 3 new monovarietals. They are 3 wines inspired by winemakers in the area and that, once again, are intended to be a tribute to the natives of the region. Also to longtime farmers. Nadiu El Macià, 100% White Garnacha. Nadiu Lo Bonet, 100% Cariñena. Finally, Nadiu La Simó, 100% Garnacha negra.
Unique growers-farmers
Priorat winery is the only cooperative in the DOQ Priorat formed by agricultural producers who fully manage the process of production, elaboration and commercialization of wine. It is made up of about 140 producer partners. They have a total of 210 hectares of vineyards and 320 of olive trees.
The producers work small vineyards and with a low production per vine. The orography of Priorat, the cultivation on slopes that can exceed 30%, the slate soil and the advanced age of the vineyards mark the exceptionality of its productions.
