Ponche Caballero and his five secrets

Made with natural products that came to El Puerto of Santa María (Cádiz) at that time, those ingredients ended up writing its history. That of Ponche Caballero and his five secrets:

  • Orange Peel. Ideal combination of sweetness and acidity of the richest oranges Andalusian.
  • Cinnamon. Arrival from Sri Lanka, where the best is grown, its sweet and intoxicating aroma is brilliant for the punch recipe.

The birth of an exceptional liquor

To know the origin of Punch Knight we must go back to the ancient Persia. There where they prepared a very similar drink called hive (five). This meaning was nothing more than the reference to the ingredients it had: lemon, sugar, water, tea and brandy. 

That same punch ended up in the hands british already in the early seventeenth century, when the colonies of the East Indies. Thus, its consumption was expanding towards the West. Each country adapted its own recipe to a drink that took center stage in the celebrations and festivities. 

However, in the specific case of the Spanish family Men, it was the Galician José caballero who decided to merge two elements to obtain a recipe. The one that has continued to last until today for the elaboration of this punch. Thus, his idea focused on merging the traditional queimada from Galicia to products in the area of El Puerto de Santa María.

In that way was born Punch Knight, with some of his hits earned a posteriori. For example, becoming the first liquor that metallized his bottle in 1969 or also be the best seller in Spain since 1990.
