The idea that two entrepreneurs from the Catalan company based in Cornellá It arose from the problem of heat treating honey. If the heat treatment that lasts only two minutes and which heats up to about 80 degrees Celsius were not applied, the packaging of the product would be unthinkable. Therefore, its benefits decrease, something that has motivated the interesting research of Sonicat-System. The goal was to find an improved technique to avoid that negative aspect. It basically consists of applying high power ultrasound which liquefies the raw material extracted from the combs without exceeding 55ºC. In this way, the concentration of sugar crystals is reduced to a level comparable to traditional pasteurization. But always preserving the quality of honey raw, a novelty that could be revolutionary. Several European companies have already been interested in LIQUAM for a healthier honey. They have worked for eight years to develop this technique. Minimize food processing to the maximum.

European grant

LIQUAM has also been selected among thousands of startups technologies to receive a grant of two million euros from the European Commission. This, within the framework of the project Horizon 2020. Until now, the Catalan company only has one functional prototype that has been tested in a beekeeping facility in Valencia. The results obtained have been so good that they are already thinking big. After presenting your idea of R+D to CE, they hope to be able to manufacture a machine with which to process up to 300 tons of honey a year.
