Cultured meat is coming to US restaurants

The United States Department of Agriculture has authorized cultured chicken meat to be sold in American restaurants. In this way, the Upside and Good Meat companies will be able to market their product to their restaurant customers.

According to ProVeg Livestock farms are responsible for 20% of greenhouse gas emissions. All of this will be a way of helping us exceed the internationally agreed temperature limit of 1,5 degrees. In addition, the production of cultivated meat is a sustainable way of eating and being able to reach more of the population economically.

Cultured meat, a meat with a future

According to the consulting firm Mckinsey, there are still a few years left for its mass production. For now, they point out from the consultancy, the challenge is to demonstrate commercial viability. Already in 2030 it is expected that the size of the cultured meat market could reach 25 billion dollars.

Environmental studies show that cultured beef could lead to a 92% reduction in carbon footprint if renewable energy is used in the production process. A 95% reduction in land use to feed cattle and 78% in water needs, compared to conventional beef production.

Spain starts production in 2024

Specifically . The JBS company, through its subsidiary BioTech Foods, has begun construction work on its first commercial-scale plant. The objective is to produce meat grown in Spain. The plant that will be located in Donostia will finish its construction in mid-2024 and will be able to produce 1000 tons of cultivated meat per year.
