Geneva Ser del Sur, new Sevillian gin

Was born in Seville capital, It combines the best of the Andalusian region and its reception after its launch on the local market has been very positive among consumers. We talk about the gin Ser del Sur, whose name already tells you what it wants to evoke with each glass you drink. In this report we present it to you after Gastronomic Information we have had the pleasure of meeting your creators. Very attentive because they reveal everything about him the origin of this new drink and how it differs from the rest of the existing offer. After reading this you are sure to try it!

Prior knowledge and tradition, after the origin

Behind the gin Ser del Sur there are its creators, two Sevillian businessmen who share "passion and entrepreneurial vision". But also prior knowledge in the alcoholic beverages sector. While David hernandez has already created a "unique in the world" distillate called Lack of, Carlos Melgarejo he has been acquiring his experience thanks to an ingrained "family tradition". This is how they tell us why they ventured into the new project: «We think of a gin because it is a very traditional drink in Spain and, particularly, in the south. Hence we chose a name so representative of our land«.

This is exactly what they wanted to introduce in the new gin Ser del Sur, "The best aspects and characteristics" of the southern region. Of course, they were very clear that, above all, the product should have "excellent quality." For this reason, they opted for the elaboration through London Dry Gin method, triple distillation. They explain it to us even more in detail: “In this way we eliminate as many impurities as possible. A well distilled spirit is eliminated through the urine much faster, avoiding hangovers and discomfort ».

A Melgarejo This was taught to him by an ethnologist, he tells us, who explained something to him that has served him "as a reference throughout my career." «Carlos, always remember that everything that you do not eliminate in your distillations has to be eliminated by your body. Therefore, it distils well, your body will appreciate it », he reveals that he told him. Now that recommendation has been transferred to your new product.

That's how unique Ser del Sur gin is

Entering the matter of content of the new product, both Andalusian entrepreneurs previously offer us an interesting vision. «We believe that the world of gin has been, in some way, transformed by the great proliferation of brands that have come onto the market with sweet fruit flavors«, They say. This has meant «putting between 30 and 80 grams of sugar per liter, totally changing the taste of traditional gin ». "It is sold under the same name, but it is not really gin," he says.

Of course, this is not the case with this native Sevillian, who returns "to the traditional flavor" with essential ingredients but also with "a touch of originality." In this way, the gin Ser del Sur contains juniper, coriander, angelica root and ginger. Then two more items give you that "Unique touch" and even representative of his place of birth, compared to other gins on the market:

  • Hop flower, whose "value is highly appreciated in the south for being an essential element for beer."
  • Bitter orange, a also common citrus fruit of Sevilla but "on many occasions, little valued." It denotes a memory of "that unmistakable smell of orange blossom in the Sevillian spring."

In short, "there is no gin that transmits those sensations so ours and so wonderful that are impregnated in the nose and throat" when you drink a glass of gin Ser del Sur.

Great reception and presence in Seville capital

After going on sale on February 18, the new Gin Ser del Sur could enjoy a great reception by the public. Though Carlos Melgarejo sees "difficult" to explain this success, he gives us two keys that can justify it: value for money and name.

'On the one hand, we are looking for a drink with a qualifying quality'premium'but at a very competitive price. Although it should be priced higher, we sacrifice a large part of our margin in order to reach all audiences. Secondly, we are looking for a striking, personal and representative name, which makes an impact on seeing it for the first time, which produces a feeling of familiarity and belonging to the south »

For precisely that second reason, the label of the bottle is designed "with the aim of giving great visibility to the name and, at the same time, expressing a certain reminiscence of the traditional, of the old". But, where can you already find this brand of spirits to taste it? After the first launch campaign in Sevilla they managed to get "about 60 clients." Therefore, in almost 40 local Sevillians you can order a glass of gin Ser del Sur. See here where exactly.

The challenges in times of coronavirus

Once that powerful acceptance of the drink is achieved, the next challenges that these two gin lovers are considering are still one unknown. Because they are also affected by this health crisis of coronavirus: «Until the end of May, our strategy consisted of taking over the whole of Seville capital and we wanted to introduce our product in the provinces of Huelva, Cádiz and Malaga already in summer ». However, now it will be their turn to "assess whether we continue as planned, once normality returns." The objective they had was to reach all Andalusia and, later, "to the national and international market."

For now, in confinement, with plated bars, restaurants, pubs and nightclubs ... You can try the gin Ser del Sur leveraging purchase online of one of the pack what are you offering!
