The Xarel.lo from the DO Penedès triumphs in London

Asia House in London has hosted the first international event of the DO Penedès dedicated to a totally professional audience. The objective of the day was to raise awareness in the United Kingdom of the wine heritage of the DO Penedès. Especially the native variety Xarel.lo as one of its flagship varieties. All this through two master classes led by Masters of Wine such as Alvaro Ribalta and Sarah Jane Evans and a round table. Attendees have also been able to discover and taste 65 references from 28 wineries in the region. DO Penedes in a showroom format. There, the potential of Xarel·lo has been highlighted as a variety that many have defined as “a pearl to be polished and made known in the English market.”

 

Xarel·lo as a cover letter

La DO Penedes organized these days in order to continue with the objective of promoting Penedès wines within international markets. A purpose that the DO has marked in the 2021-2030 Strategic Plan. The event at Asia House is the first of its kind that the DO organizes but which it hopes to repeat after the success achieved.

 

On this occasion, those attending the event – ​​importers, distributors, sommeliers, specialized journalists and professionals in the sector – were able to taste 65 wines from 28 wineries. The participating wineries value the action very positively. They also highlight the profile of attendees, very specialized and interested in Penedès wines.

In addition, to present the Penedès wine culture, two master classes have been held. The first was conducted by the Masters of Wine, Álvaro Ribalta and Sarah Jean Evans, who focused on the Xarel·lo variety. The second has been dedicated to professionals who are currently receiving training at the Institut Master of Wine. Subsequently, a round table moderated by the editor of the specialized magazine Harpers took place and in which the president of the DO Penedès, Joan Huguet, participated.
