Ribera del Duero harvest: historical and sweet

New closure of vintage 2019 in another great Designation of Origin of our country. This week it was the turn of the Harvest Ribera del Duero, which has recorded historical figures. Since the campaign started there on September 12 until the end of October, a total of 96 million kilos of grapes. All of them in excellent condition and quality to offer some magnificent wines soon. Also, this year the Regulatory Council can be proud to have released the category of blancos thanks to the variety Albillo major. Harvest Figures Ribera del Duero 2019

If from 2018, Harvest Ribera del Duero offered a total balance of 125 million kilos of grapes, this year the figure has dropped considerably. Of course, it must be borne in mind that the DO signed last year the second largest campaign of all its history. Therefore, from the Regulatory Council They have given a positive assessment to the current result obtained, even though the amount was lower than the usual average. The small size of the berries has had an impact on a much lower weight of each cluster, hence the final figure. However, the quality it has remained very high thanks to good weather conditions.

La Harvest Ribera del Duero 2019 has been characterized by the deep color that will give rise to fresh and elegant wines with a very expressive nose and great balance on the palate. Key to this achievement has been the work of the 8.300 winegrowers in the 300 wineries that belong to the Designation of Origin. Keeping both pests and diseases at bay is always a guarantee of success in this agricultural activity. Until 23.371 hectares registered in the DO they have been harvested, around 80% of the grapes being harvested by hand.

Milestone with the white grape Albillo Mayor

In relation to 600.000 kilos collected from White grape (included in the total) a whole milestone. For the first time in this wine-growing area there will be white wines after the modification that occurred in the specifications of the regulation of the DO. Before, this variety was used to complement the production of other wines, but now unique ones will be produced with at least one 75% of Albillo mayor. The technical director of the CR, Agustin Alonso, has qualified the Harvest Ribera del Duero as of "normal duration as a whole." "The wines will delight lovers of young and fresh, but also those for aging," he believes.
