Controls on the sale of Iberian

El fraud in the agri-food sector It is not something strange, it happens and more frequently than would be desirable. One of the products due to their fraudulent value are Iberian pork products. And furthermore, these frauds are accentuated during the Christmas season.

After a month of allegedly fraudulent actions being carried out in Córdoba, the Andalusian Government is going to carry out controls to try to prevent these frauds.

In the previous controls carried out, irregularities were detected in 63% of the cases. Problems in labeling and product information are the most frequent. Thus, in 11% of cases the net amount of food is not indicated. In 18% of cases, the minimum duration date or, where appropriate, the expiration date is not reported. Nor is this information carried out as indicated by the regulations. In the case of information on the time that the product should be consumed, once the container is opened, nothing is reported in 33% of cases. Nor does it concern the manner of conservation during the period in which this container has been opened.

Other information problems are about the Denomination of Origin. This must appear with the same size and in a prominent place in the same way as the trademark and in 30% of the cases it does not happen.

The Iberian fraud continues

Bad practices are not only with labeling or bad information. These are often not the result of fraud but of poor management. The big problem with Iberian products continues to be fraud in products that are sold as Iberian products when they are not. And the Christmas campaign is a sweet time for this type of scam. Avoid bargains and get well informed about the types of labels that exist.
