Approved the bill against food waste.

Food waste is one of the biggest problems of the Spanish food service. The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, reports that approximately each Spaniard throws away about thirty kilograms of food. In addition, this represents 42% of the total food discarded in Spain. To combat this problem, the Congress of Deputies approved the new "Bill for the Prevention of Food Loss and Waste" with two hundred and sixty-nine votes in favor, none against, and seventy abstentions.

The initiative aims to curb waste, prevent and reduce food losses, with the commitment of all agents in the food chain. In addition, this measure is related to the 2030 Agenda, to have a responsible production and consumption.

The initiative will be processed during these days in the Senate. According to article 90 of the Constitution, the Upper House has two months to approve a norm in the same terms as Congress. Although you can oppose your veto or make amendments to the text. If the Senate introduces changes, the text must return to Congress for review. If Congress approves the text without changes, the law will be ready to be published in the BOE and enter into force.
