Oil from Jaén, the first PGI for EVOO!

The flagship product of the Andalusian province that produces the most 'liquid gold' in Spain already has its European recognition for its excellence and quality. The Official Journal of the European Union has published the inclusion of the Protected Geographical Indication (PGI) Oil from Jaén. In this way, it has been included in the European register of Denominations of Origin (DO) after concluding the application process. The request was promoted from the sector and has had the support of the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries and Sustainable Development of the Junta de Andalucía. We tell you more here!

With this seal, AOVE that meet the requirements established in the specifications of this PGI have the endorsement of the European Union to his excellence. This support at the community level leads to a boost to the positioning of the products that it supports Oil from Jaén. This new quality seal Differentiated is expected to have a positive impact on the income of farmers and industry in the oil sector.

Among other actions, this PGI may benefit from the support that the Junta de Andalucía offers food and beverages protected by quality designations. You may also participate in the hands of said autonomous body, when sanitary conditions allow it, in the multiple promotion fairs of the agri-food sector to value the product.

Likewise, it has already materialized in the procedures that it has carried out Agriculture to request temporary national protection for these products. All so that they can already use the badge of the quality mention in the 2020-2021 campaign.

Oil from Jaén protects extra virgin olive oils made in the province of Jaén made mainly from olives from the variety picual, native to the area.
