More La Plana 2012, the flagship wine of the Torres family, reaps new international recognitions. He has recently achieved the highest distinction in the International Wine Challenge. Now, it adds up as the best Catalan red wine. It has been awarded the Platinum Best Catalan Red in the Decanter World Wine Awards 2017.

The prestigious wine competition has also awarded a gold medal to Real Reserve 2012. It is another of the emblematic wines of the Penedes for the Torres family. Both wines have obtained a score of 95 points out of one hundred.

The reference wine publication describes more flat, 100% cabernet sauvignon, as a wine with "a very Mediterranean nose, with dense notes of dark berry and black olive, fragrant and medicinal hints of herbs and leather."

While from Royal Reserve, elaborated with cabernet sauvignon, merlot and cabernet franc, says it has “a dense and spicy nose of ripe black cherry, enhanced with hints of vanilla. It results from the long aging in oak ”.

This wine was recognized as 'Best in show' in two previous editions of the Decanter World Wine. That, in the category of best red of Bordeaux varieties.

2012, a year of excellent quality

The course of 2012 it was a very dry year for much of the growing season. Except for a very rainy april and some precipitation in October. This meant a significant decrease in production but a unbeatable grape quality. Resulting in exceptional wines.

The World Wine Decanter Awards They are considered one of the most influential wine competitions in the world. This year, in his Edition 14, they have been tasted blind 17.200 wines. After that, 7 platinum medals and 30 gold medals have been awarded to Spanish wines.

The wines awarded with a gold medal are divided into categories according to price (below or above GBP 15), at style or variety from grape. They are tasted again to qualify for the platinum medal. The wines that achieve this recognition will be able to compete for the 'Platinum Best in Show'.
