From pasteurization to Haelen, Naturo's invention

Do you know the history of the pasteurization? It is a process that, since it was discovered, has saved lives. What does this mean? Well it means that there are certain foods that carry a series of bacteria that contaminate food and that can even affect health. Applying this technique, these microorganisms are destroyed, making their consumption safe.

Its discoverer was Louis Pasteur, whose concern for biology led him to find safe ways to consume certain foods. After many experiments, detected that if the wine was heated to 55 °, the batteries died but the taste of the wine remained intact. This is how the pasteurization (1864), named after Pasteur.

So far, this had been the biggest breakthrough in what to dairy safety it means. Nevertheless, Naturo and its founder and CEO Jeff Hastings -Agronomist engineer with more than 30 years of experience in the agro-industrial world- have given another twist to the treatment of milk. This is how it is born Haelen, the new technology that has revolutionized the sector. “Haelen® is a method of innovative processing which provides a milk safe to drink”Explains their website. And not only that, but it also contains "more nutrients and a taste more similar to natural milk."

What is the breakthrough that promises more dairy safety?

As we have said before, the creation of Naturo is a system that exceeds not only pasteurization, but also to other processes such as UHT (Ultra-High Temperature). Quoting again the official page of this new system, “the Haelen® method kills more pathogens, making it safer than traditional methods; and it is the only known method that removes the Bacillus cereus, common pathogen in milk". Not much is known about this new method yet, but what is known is that works by pressure; and, as a result, ensures that the milk is treated more safely.

Advantages of the Haelen system

In addition to the characteristics already explained that differentiate this new method from those previously mentioned, Haelen technology increases the shelf life of milk, being able to be conserved until 60 days open in the fridge. This represents a point in favor of pasteurization, which allows a shelf life of about 14 days.

Other advantages of this system is that it promises that even nutritional properties they are superior to other treatments. Even after the procedure, essential vitamins like B2 or B12 remain; also the enzymes, which are essential for our body and that with pasteurization disappear. That is, a milk that tastes 100% natural and fresh, but with all the security that the treatment promises.

The incorporation of this new system follows the expected steps. In fact, creation has already been approved by the Australian Food Safety Regulatory Authority, Dairy Food Safety Victoria (DFSV). And in their desire to expand and put their invention to the test, the brand will launch in 2021 a collection of dairy products processed by Haelen, called Wholey Milk Co.
