Fábrica de Cacao is inaugurated, the first “circular brewery”

Today the Cocoa Factory is inaugurated on rúa das Orfas in Santiago de Compostela, the first "circular brewery" of Estrella Galicia. This is the first project carried out hand in hand between the client and Hijos de Rivera in order to place this venue at the forefront in terms of energy efficiency and circular economy.

Estrella Galicia announced this year that it is going a step further in its ambition to generate a positive impact on its environment. It does so by expanding its radius of action to its customers through the Circular Breweries project. The objective is to achieve the sustainable transformation of its network of cellar breweries. For this, an advisory service is made available to all of them that is committed to reusable packaging, eco-design in the construction of the premises, in the application of energy efficiency measures and in the application of the best environmental practices in business management. .

In this sense, Fábrica de Cacao falls into the highest category of “Estrella Galicia circular breweries”. All this thanks to elements such as the recirculation of water through its own cistern, the use of materials at a construction level or the use of renewable energy. This will mean greater efficiency and significant energy and consumption savings.

Miguel Álvarez, co-owner of Cacao and Grupo Los Carbones (together with Santiago Salgueiro and Salomé Piquenque), points out that “it is an iconic place within the city of Santiago and deserves special and distinctive treatment. We started the project with Estrella Galicia as part of the "circular breweries" initiative, which we found super interesting both socially and economically. Estrella Galicia has advised us throughout the construction process, helping us in all its aspects. From the choice of recycled materials, the responsible management of water and energy consumption or the commitment to the circularity of packaging, avoiding non-returnable ones. The truth is that we are very happy with the result and satisfied to provide a model for restoration that walks in the same direction as society, which is respect for the environment”

The application of sustainability criteria in the start-up and daily management of hospitality establishments has multiple economic, social and environmental benefits. It is for the breweries that join this Hijos de Rivera project and decide to become champions of the positive impact on their environment, a value that is increasingly appreciated by consumers and that makes a difference in the market.
