The Padrón Peppers from Estrella Galicia

Pimientos de Padrón

The Herbón pepper harvest began in Galicia more than a month ago. In this way, the starting gun has been given for the production of Estrella Galicia Pimientos de Padrón. An exclusive recipe from the Fábrica de Cervezas line that was very successful at its launch last year. So the Galician brewery has been forced to reissue this product.

In this way, 57.000 liters of this beer will be available to consumers from this Friday, August 3. It can be purchased through the brand's website: https://estrellagalicia.es/fabricadecervezas/, as well as in food stores and hospitality establishments. The new Estrella Galicia Pimientos de Padrón Beer Factory is presented both in barrel and in a 50cl bottle.

This seasonal beer is conceived from one of the most characteristic products of this land. The Padrón Peppers.

For its elaboration, the Hijos de Rivera master brewers have incorporated the chopped peppers during the storage period. The aromas and flavors that distinguish a beer where pepper and spicy have a special role have thus been achieved.

Luis Alvar, Hijos de Rivera brewmaster, points out that “Padrón Peppers give beer a very unique touch of spice. This has been one of the keys to the success of this product, in addition to the attractiveness of trying a beer that takes risks with ingredients with a strong personality like this one ”.

In this sense, he highlights that “the producers of this DO achieve great stability in the organoleptic properties of their product. Something that facilitates the elaboration of a beer with uniform characteristics ”.

Brewmasters accept the challenge to continue exploring flavors

Fábrica de Cervezas is a dynamic recipe line with constant creative work. All of this comes from the Estrella Galicia brewmasters. Luis Alvar promises more surprises in the future. Alvar comments that “we intend to continue proposing new flavors with the aim of opening the minds of consumers. To provoke them to try different recipes that go beyond the comfort zone of their main beers ”. So far, “we have worked the spicy with the pepper beer. Also the sweet with the pumpkin and the salty with the barnacles. We have a wide range of flavors to explore ”.

Harvest time for Padrón peppers

This year the Herbón pepper harvest started late due to the bad weather last spring. The collection work did not start until June. in which farmers in the area are fully employed until the end of October. The development of this product demands a good and constant temperature of between 25 and 28 degrees during the day, and 15 degrees at night, this has not been achieved until recently.

Today there are 29 producers registered under the Designation of Origin Pimientos de Herbón who obtain a production of approximately 90.000 kilos per year. Depending on the weather of each season. 80% of this pepper production corresponds to A Pementeira, of which around 1.300 kg are used this year for the production of the Estrella Galicia Pimientos de Padrón Beer Factory.

Milagros González, president of A Pementeira, points out that the launch of this beer “is very positive for the denomination of origin. We are all Galicians and we have high quality products so it is good that we collaborate ”.

They themselves were overwhelmed by the success of the product in its 2017 launch. In this sense, he comments that “the beer loved it and surprised everyone. It was very difficult to get it so I hope that now it can be tried by people who did not find it in their day "
