The UN urges to reduce meat consumption

El climate change continues to be a headache for the planet and one of the objectives of the Paris Agreement 2050 the fact is implied reduce meat consumption. This has been advised since United Nations (ONU), after being known last Thursday a base report for future negotiations. They should be adopted new eating habitsas it is one of the proven solutions to stop the consequences of global warming. But why should you eat less meat?

The data that justify reducing meat consumption

The disclosure document was approved after five days of meetings between 107 scientists during the 50th session of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). In it, for the first time, a direct relationship has been established that justifies the effects of soil degradation on the increase in global temperature. Therefore, they emphasize that "better soil management" is necessary, in addition to reduce meat consumption.

In this way, problems such as desertification, the zones more arid and biodiversity loss, among others. The data says it all: 37% of global greenhouse gas emissions come from production world food. Undoubtedly, here the industries are largely 'to blame', along with other activities. Because agriculture, deforestation and forest fires emit the 23% of polluting gases and food waste corresponds to him 10%.

What does the UN propose to solve?

All of this gives reasons to ONU to ask them to start policies that reduce food waste that is estimated between 25 and 30% of everything produced. Similarly, along the same lines, it is urged that the measures taken by governments "influence the choice of certain food options." In other words, let them be adopted diets for reduce meat consumption. Thus, you could even fight obesity, a disease that affects almost two million people.

As explained in the report, generate less garbage de foods it can reduce pressures to deforest and plant agricultural land. Thus, CO2 emissions would be reduced. The logical idea is to take advantage of those products (also those of meat) that are thrown away so that industries also have to make less. Although, this task that each one lives in their own home, is more a matter of responsibility and personal awareness.

In any case, the ONU even recommends recovering traditional practices agricultural, livestock and forestry in order to generate lower environmental impact. Do they talk like this of going back to the past in order to have a future?
