DO Cigales rewards its best wines

Cigales

La Denomination of Origin Cigales has delivered the Cigales Quality Awards 2017. Have been for Verdejo Salveros 2016 from Bodegas Hijos de Marcos Gómez, as the best white; 50 Harvests of Sinforiano 2016, from the Sinforiano Winery, as the best rosé; Albeitar 2015, from the Rodríguez Sanz Winery, as the best young red; Y Museum Reserve 2012, from the Bodega Museum, as the best aged red.

These awards were created in recognition of the work of those responsible for the production of quality wines from the Denomination. For that reason, also the trajectory of the viticulturist is rewarded.

Santiago Camazon Conde was awarded this distinction in the eighth edition. In homage to the former president of the DO Cigales for 10 years, it will bear the name of Pascal Herrera. The deputy of Territorial Action of the Diputación de Palencia, Urban Alonso, picked it up from the president of the CRDO Cigales.

On the other hand, July Valleys has won the Special award for supporting the promotion of wines under the Denomination.

Cigales, known for its rosés, also makes great reds

The awards ceremony was preceded by the work carried out by 24 winemakers and sommeliers, led by the Technical Director, Águeda del Val. They carried out the blind tasting for two hours. Went to all 68 wines presented in its four categories.

This edition also includes the category of blancos to the contest, since little by little the production of this type of wine is increasing.

La DO Cigales it's located in Castilla Leon and almost entirely in the province of Valladolid. It is known for its rosé wines although in recent years they are getting excellent red wines. The varieties grown in the area are tempranillos, garnachas and Verdejos and Albillo in whites.

Its lands are limestone and sandy soils with a lack of organic matter and a continental climate with little rainfall. All this gives personality and charisma to its wines.
