Denomination of Origin Rosalejo, the new DO

Spain already has a new Denomination of Origin and it is already the 103rd, it is the Rosalejo Denomination of Origin. It is located in Castilla La Mancha between Sevilleja de la Jara (Toledo) and the Ciudad Real town of Anchuras. With this, the Community of Castilla La Mancha already has 22 designations of origin.

The new DO has already been published in the Official Journal of the European Union. It has also been registered in the European register of Protected Designations of Origin and Protected Geographical Indications.

The request for this new DO begins in 2022 by the Eldoze Winery which covers this new DO with an area of 1300 Ha. In this way it becomes a Pago wine. This paid wine is the 25th of those recognized by the EU to date, and 13 of these belong to Castilla La Mancha.

The wines of the new Rosalejo Denomination of Origin

This Denomination of Origin provides fresh wines thanks to the low pH of its lands as they have a low level of Potassium and Calcium. These fresh and balanced wines give it a special personality that is pleasant to the palate. These same characteristics of the soil give a beautiful and intense ruby red color to the wines that is almost unalterable over time. All of this makes DO Rosalejo wines good wines for aging.

The territory has an altitude of 650 meters above sea level and an average rainfall that is around 600-700 liters per year.

The varieties authorized by the new DO are red and are Garnacha Tinta, Syrah and Tempranillo. The wines must be aged for a minimum of six months in oak barrels. These wines may be Crianza, Reserva and Gran Reserva.
