Obstacles

Of all those surveyed, 52% say they do not have enough information to comment. For which they demand more. Likewise, 49% believe that products of plant origin that replace meat are too expensive. While the 32% do not find them attractive or appetizing. To this it is necessary to add the limited availability and alternatives that catering offers. 46% of consumers think that outside the home they do not have enough vegan or vegetarian options.

Despite this, the 62% of the population is considered omnivorous. Being 30% of them flexitarians. That is, they continue to eat meat from time to time, but try to reduce it. 63% maintain the same diet that they followed five years ago.

Context

This survey is released when world leaders meet at the COP26. In order to discuss actions to achieve your climatic purposes. This is related because animal products account for 82% of carbon emissions of European diets. However, with the move towards plant-based diets, this could be reduce from 30 to 90%.

Like Spain, the rest of Europe agrees that it eats less meat than last year. Less than 40% intend to reduce their consumption in the next six months. While approximately a third of them also want to cut down on dairy.

We believe that to improve our health and the environment we have to change our habits. This is because our culture has accustomed us to an abusive consumption of meat. However, we agree with the view that, in general, we are not helped. In other words, supermarkets do not offer many alternatives. And when they do prices are not accessible to the entire population. Therefore, from here, we encourage you to apply the theory that we all know to our routine and to make a little effort. And what do you think?
