Increase the consumption of frozen foods.

Spaniards have changed their food consumption in recent years. The consumption of frozen foods has increased in the shopping basket, due to the unprecedented price increase that the country is experiencing, especially in fresh products.

According to a report from the DBK Sectoral Observatory, the growth of the frozen food market has recovered the pre-pandemic level, which has reached five billion euros in 2022.

The report also advances the deterioration of the economic situation due to the maintenance of inflationary pressures, which will foreseeably result in a stagnation of the market value in 2023. Companies in the frozen sector have performed well, since they have not risen excessively the prices of their products, as has been marked by the context of rising prices of fresh food.

The frozen meat and vegetable market had price increases of 3%, generating a business volume of five hundred and seventy-five million and one hundred and eighty-five million, respectively. On the other hand, sales of frozen fish continue to be the great asset of the frozen market, close to two thousand nine hundred million euros in revenue, after growing by 1%. Despite this evolution, in the year 2022, the consumption of frozen products decreased by 2,5% due to the increase in the demand for fresh products. According to the NielsenIQ report on consumer trends, fish was the food (of fresh foods) that had the biggest drop in demand, with 9%, while vegetables only decreased by 3%.
