Allergens not indicated cause health alert

The Organization of Consumers and Users has given voice to the emergency detected by the Spanish Food Safety Agency (AESAN). This has been caused by allergens not specified in the labeling of certain foods. Although the law requires highlighting the allergens of a product, this rule is not always complied with. Sometimes because contamination occurs during processing. What are the affected products? Let's see it.

Milk proteins in alcoholic beverages

The Catalan authorities detected trace milk proteins in various alcoholic beverages. This means that it is advisable to return the drink to the store although this does not carry a huge danger for those allergic to the protein of the milk. Thus, products that violate the standard must be relabelled and customers should be informed. They are the following:

• Arros cream liqueur The Petonet
• Rice cream liqueur The Petonet Magik
• Minis The Petonet

All the Frit Ravich brand popcorn they were put in the crosshairs for containing mustard. This ingredient was not included in the labeling of one of its batches (No. 22101 Frit Ravich Butter Flavored Popcorn). The error comes from a moment of packaging, when a batch of ketchup&mustard popcorn were put into a container of butter popcorn.

However, AESAN has withdrawn the alert after an investigation by the health authorities. These have come to the conclusion that, despite its name (aroma of ketchup and mustard), it does not contain mustard.

Sesame in prepared dishes

The alert was given in the Community of Madrid in prepared dishes with cumin from the MRM 2 and LIFESTYLE TAPPERS brands. Undeclared sesame was found in them. The problem comes from the fact that the ground cumin used in the preparation could be contaminated with sesame. So, avoid this brand if you have a sesame allergy.

Eggs in Chinese noodles

The AESAN notified on March 18 that Sun Tao brand noodles of Chinese origin contained egg without declaring it on the label. The Dutch authorities detected this infringement and brought it to the attention of the rest of Europe. In this case, the presence of the allergen is very high, which puts the allergic consumer at risk.
