Endesa's solar honey

The well-known electrical company Endesa has obtained the certified designation of origin for the honey produced in the solar plants it manages. To do this, it has installed apiaries around its renewable plants distributed throughout Spain. In this way he has registered the trademark “Endesa® Solar Honey".

In this way, the Endesa subsidiary in charge of solar production Enel Green Power demonstrates the compatibility of solar production with other activities. All of this arose from a pilot test carried out with Loramiel beekeepers at the company's plant in Carmona (Seville). The project is complemented by the cultivation of aromatic plants that are complementary to the production of honey.

Later the project has grown looking for these complementary activities. Always from local beekeepers. They currently have two more photovoltaic plants and honey producers. One of them is in Sedeis V (Andorra, Teruel) and another in the Minglanilla solar plant (Cuenca, Castilla-La Mancha). The latter is complemented by the cultivation of a saffron plantation, a crop deeply rooted in the area.

In this way, the energy company will develop new projects that are along this line. In 2024 it will reach 15 solar apiaries in Spain with the plants that are currently being installed. It is also expected that 2025 more beekeeping facilities will be added to the project in 7.

In addition to all this, the objective is that a percentage of the honey produced stays in the area and is purchased by local businesses for the production of artisanal products. A good example is the donation to the nuns of the Santa Clara convent in Carmona for the production of their sweets. In addition, the El Alcázar de Carmona center for the disabled is responsible for labeling honey containers.
