Exploring wild edible plants

This past Saturday Eixarcolant Collective has brought together more than 6.000 people with an interest in edible wild plants in Igualada (Barcelona).

Like every year, visitors come to learn and enjoy this botanical and gastronomic encounter. All to discover first-hand the knowledge of a good handful of professionals from the ethnobotanical world. An excellent opportunity to discover, among others, the uses of wild edible plants.

This new edition shows the growing interest of society in a change in the agri-food model. A change that involves the construction of a fair, healthy system based on local and proximity production.

This year they have highlighted the quality and level of the different technical and applied talks. Also the gastronomic demonstrations, workshops or ethnobotanical outings, which in this edition have expanded their offer. Everything to offer more activities to enjoy as a family.

In addition, almost 800 portions were served at the Day's lunch, with Pisana as the protagonist. This cereal is rich in fiber and protein. Currently it is only cultivated in a residual way despite being widely cultivated in ancient times.

 

Edible wild plants as protagonists

 

In this edition, the Conference has expanded in occupied space, the craft exhibition has been held. It has also been expanded in dates and locations and with the realization of the Traveling Exhibition of Ethnobotanical Cinema.

The participation of schools with workshops in 9 centers in the region has had a special role. Note that the 2nd edition of the Silvestres Restaurants, with the participation of 6 restaurants (Ingravita, Kökobol, El Café del Ateneo, Espacio Gastronomic del Fomento and Cubos, in Igualada; and Nean, in Capellades).

In short, a success for the Eixarcolant Collective as an organizer. This organization aims to bring the possibility of trying forgotten plants closer to citizens so that their consumption becomes an everyday occurrence.
