How did the idea come about?

This innovative idea of edible cutlery has come from the hand of Laura Gispert. She is a former student of the Degree in Design of the Escola Universitária Elisava of Barcelona and its main objective is and was to eradicate single-use plastic. His invention will go on the market this February. They are a perfect idea for all those who are concerned about the environment. At the moment, the ones that come closest to them in respectful terms are those made of disposable wood, but this is something totally different.

As the designer herself has told various media, the idea arose when she faced the problem of what to do with plastic cutlery when I went on a picnic. She tried not to use this type of cutlery so as not to generate waste, but carrying those from home was somewhat uncomfortable. So, because of this, Gispert decided give life to your restlessness and launch these new edible cutlery.

The beginning of edible cutlery

As you can see, the idea came from Gispert. And it is that, when he got ready to do his Final Degree Project (GFR) the first thing he thought about was this. Edible and biodegradable cutlery, to offer a positive dining experience. 

At first, the former student from Barcelona devised a complete tableware made of different materials. Among which were flour, water, seeds and jellies of many flavors. But she was her own tutor, Mariana eitler, which was able to focus her work and find the true potential of this idea. It was she who insisted that the idea be simpler and possible to execute in real life. That is when the revolutionary invention was truly born.

This project has led to the creation of Voila, a brand of edible cutlery, to eradicate single-use plastic, which, as we have mentioned before, will go on the market this month.

The point of balance

The cutlery of "Use and eat" They have been a great innovation in the world of gastronomy and respect for the environment. But its formula has not been so easy to come by. How are edible cutlery made?

Made of flour of rice, without more. They do not have gluten and are suitable for vegans. In addition, according to Gispert's own words for La Vanguardia, “edible cutlery improves the gastronomic experience and fulfills the function of bread”. It should be noted that, to achieve the perfect texture and proper flavor, worked for more than six months with Saguer.

Even if you are so full that you do not get a single gram more of food, you can dispose of them without fear, because these break down in as little as 30 days. Finally, the designer highlights that her cutlery is perfectly resistant to fulfill their function, but they are not too harsh. So eating them is very simple and nice for all.

Future project

Although the original idea was not the current one, Gispert wants to create a whole cutlery edible. And it is that, according to her it is a necessity product and can be used in any context. Its main objective is to remove plastic cutlery of the gastronomic panorama.

Therefore, environmental impact This proposal will not be real if large quantities of this product are not launched on the market. And, although the project is starting, Gispert is already in contact with several companies interested parties who see your idea as a safe bet for the future.
