Germany identifies its agri-food products with a seal

Germany identifies products grown or manufactured in its country with its own seal that will allow its citizens to learn about German products. The so-called label “Origin Germany” It has two main objectives. First of all, learn more easily about all the agri-food products that are grown, raised, produced and processed in Germany. Secondly, it will allow proximity products to be recognized among all the stamps that existed until now.

The label in stamp format will go with the literal “Good things about German agriculture” and it is an initiative of the Council of Commerce and Agriculture and has a voluntary nature, that is, it is not a public initiative. This organization works with the employers of the sector retail that It seems that it has welcomed the initiative since it will simplify and unify labeling within the multitude of existing identifications.

The identification will be applied to fruits, vegetables, eggs, dairy products as well as processed or fresh pork, poultry and beef products. The identification will be used for packaged products and for sale by cut or bulk, identifying them in their display.

Some critics of Germany's agri-food seal

Among the critical voices are those who see that it is just one more label within the large number of existing labels and do not believe that unification will be achieved. There is also a great doubt about the control that can be exercised in the industry or producers, especially in production places close to the borders where origins are increasingly mixed. This is usually common in the milk sector where collection takes place between two countries.

On the other hand, in the critical sector there are all those who see the seal as a solely patriotic reason, leaving aside the quality of the product. Also ceasing to consider eco or animal welfare products and entering into what is expected to be a war of stamps and different identifications.
