La agricultural professional association Jarc-Coac has awarded the first international award to best Golden apple. As well as the golden apple most valued by the market.

The winner in the category of best golden apple has been Sat Tornafruit by Tornabous, from the Urgell region (Lleida). For its part, the award for the most valued by the market has been l´Horta de Barbens, from Pla d´Urgell (Lleida).

Contest of the best Golden apple

The contest is endorsed by the Institute of Agri-Food Research and Technology (IRTA) for the Generalitat. Its objective is "to give more value to the flavor of the fruit in the commercialization".

This contest was presented 14 samples, two of them from outside Catalonia, of which five finalists were selected. Among these, in a blind tasting held on March 24, the winners of the contest were selected. In a press release, jarc He stated the following:

In this way they found that the best golden apple winner is characterized by “exhibiting a higher sweetness and flavor than the rest. In addition to a good texture and appearance and an intermediate acidity ”. In the popular tasting, consumers perceived this apple as “the tastiest and juiciest”.
