El Kirsch produced by the Valle del Jerte Cooperative Association has been awarded for AEPEV. It has been recognized as the best brandy in its category during 2017.

The president of the group, Emilio Sánchez Serrano, has collected the award. All this in the meeting held by the IX Edition of the Best Wines and Spirits of Spain Awards 2017. This has been held in Valdepeñas (Real city).

It is not the first time the schnapps drawn up by the Association of Cooperatives of Valle del Jerte It is named best brandy of the year. It already was in 2010, 2013, 2015 and finally, in 2016.

Jerte cherry brandy

This schnapps is characterized by being the first and only of Spain made entirely from fruit. The liquor is made from cherries of the picota variety. Is a schnapps of genuine cherry, with characteristics as special as they are unique and with the quality of the kirsch Central Europeans.

For its production, healthy and ripe cherries are selected, from which their juice is extracted. The breaking of the bone and its inclusion in the dough is precisely what gives it a characteristic flavor and aroma.

Subsequently, it is fermented with locally grown yeasts. It is distilled in an artisanal way in small discontinuous charge stills, to finally be aged for a year.

Thus a cherry brandy genuine, with characteristics as special as they are unique. With own quality of the best Kirsch. It should be noted that this is a type of colorless liquor made by distilling the juice of a species of wild cherries. These occur in the SBlack elva from Germany.

Well, the quality of the brandy from the Jerte Valley It is so exceptional that it is highly appreciated in Germany. There they consider it to be at the height of their typical product.

A product widely exported to Germany

In 1986 the first bottles of cherry brandy came out of the Jerte Kirsch Valley. It was presented in society at the I Gourmet Salon en Madrid, with spectacular international success. Subsequently, on March 25, 1991, the fruit spirits distillery was inaugurated.

Since then, production and sales have increased. Last year 50.000 bottles and 60.000 liters were sold in bulk. Most exported to Germany, where is a Kirsch much appreciated.

These awards are given by journalists, communicators, editors and writers from the world of wine. They have a special feature. For their votes there are no customary tastings, but are based on the memory of journalists and writers who belong to the AEPEV.

In a first phase, you can propose wines and spirits that you have tasted during the year, 655 brands in total. Of all those proposed, 127 wines and 42 spirits passed to a second vote. In this second vote, the three prizes are obtained from each of the eleven categories evaluated.
