What is World Paella Day?
The world paella competition has already started. Made it hand of thirty six chefs different. It should be noted that these come from twenty different countries. On the other hand, the Councilor for Tourism, Emiliano García, describes the championship as a holiday for all Valencians. It will serve, according to his words, to remind the world that Valencia is where one of the most popular dishes comes from.
He also assures that he will vindicate the Valencian gastronomic culture. This is a curious initiative, similar to that of Sueca's International Valencian Paella Competition. This municipality in the province of Valencia carries sixty years hosting the same competition. Its first edition took place in memory of the six hundredth anniversary of the alleged discovery of the Virgin of Sales. That contest, in honor of the patron saint of the town, went from being a local celebration to one of national interest.
People came from all over Spain to make the best paella. In fact, the BOE included it as tourist interest party en 1980. Its popularity grew until ten years later contestants began to arrive from abroad. The event went global, just like World Paella Day.
