The start of the initiative

There are those who explain the great roots of the cultivation of the vine and of cereals to the Júcar region for historical reasons, agroclimatic characteristics or economic reasons. But, the truth is that it is not known with total certainty. The only thing that is clear is that the vineyards have been present in the lives of farmers in the area for hundreds of years.

For this long tradition and as an initiative of a group of winemaking cooperatives and private wineries in the province of Cuenca, the Ribera del Júcar PDO, in 2003. Thanks to her, it was possible actively collaborate in the production and marketing of the best wines.

The Denomination of Origin is conceived as a multifunctional project. Which revolves around the balance of the wine ecosystem. All of this is aimed at development of winegrowers and of the inhabitants of the towns in general, through activities parallel to the wine. It could be said that this creation is one more step in the overcoming line that shows the great effort of all the producers.

Large extension

As we have already mentioned, the PDO was created in 2003 and has an extension of more than 9.000 hectares of vineyard. All of them located in the municipalities of Casas de Benítez, Casas de Fernando Alonso, Casas de Guijarro, Casas de Haro, El Picazo, Pozoamargo and Sisante. This area is characterized by its horizontality, although it is broken by the river pass that gives name to this denomination. This unique situation provides spectacular characteristics to the Ribera del Júcar wines.

The growing area has a climate of type temperate mediterranean. With an average annual temperature that is close to 14 degrees, and a thermal oscillation of 20,5 degrees more or less. Regarding its rainfall, it should be noted that it is very regular. Therefore, the combination of temperature and humidity allows the vineyards to provide the best grapes for the preparation of perfect broths.

Quality vineyards for Ribera del Júcar wines

You should know that there is two different varieties of grapevines that are included in the Protected Designation of Origin. On the one hand, the varieties paints They are Cencibel, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah and Bobal, Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc. And, on the other, the varieties White which are Moscatel de Gran Menudo and Sauvignon Blanc. All of them present different features, but with undoubted quality.

50% of all these are between 35 and 40 years, which ensures a good relationship between the production and quality of the grape. In this sense, it is necessary to highlight among all of them the varieties bobal y Muscat of Great Menudo, which are more than rooted in the area.

The best Ribera del Júcar wines

Within the Ribera del Júcar PDO you will be able to find up to 5 wines and wineries different. All of them adapted to your tastes and needs, you just have to take a look at their website and discover Your favorite. Within the Illana Wineries and Vineyards Bobal and Carmen wines stand out, which are the favorites of regular customers. On the other hand, in Casa Gualda Wineries You can buy the Natal Verdejo, which is a white wine of immense quality or the Single Barrel, with a slightly more intense touch.
