"Spectacular" harvest in Terra Alta

With more than 70% harvested, the Denomination of Origin Terra Alta qualifies as "spectacular" the 2018 vintage, both from the point of view of quality and quantity, thanks mainly to the spring rains that have helped to keep the grapes in excellent condition until the harvest to give a great wine.

Of the 25 million kilos harvested, more than a third are from Garnacha blanca, with 10 million kilos of grapes. The rest of the varieties harvested so far are Macabeo, Garnacha Tinta, Syrah, Tempranillo and Merlot, and right now Cariñena is beginning to be taken, the latest variety recommended by the DO Terra Alta.

Although the production will be exceptional, it will not be as much as expected, since there are areas of the region in which it has not rained too much. This, added to the lack of irrigation, has meant that the vines have suffered a lot and the grapes have not achieved the expected weight. However, this drought is also what gives the grapes an excellent quality, since old vines of native varieties are used to this lack of water.

On the other hand, with regard to the production controls launched this year
awarded by the DO Terra Alta to ensure traceability and achieve more added value for your wines,
the average yields of the controlled farms during the surveys are adapting
adequately to the maximum potential allowed by the DO.

This is 8.000 kilos / hectare for the red varieties and 10.000 kilos / hectare for the white varieties. Thus also ensuring the sustainable development of the production area. The objective is always to be able to make good use of the exploited land in the future.
