New 'Qualified Place' in the DO Cava

Yesterday, May 23, the recognition of a new 'Qualified Site'. It is called 'Els Flandes del Casots' company property Pere Llopart Vilaros.

With this new incorporation, there are thirteen qualified places recognized. These comply with the strict specifications imposed by the Cava Regulatory Council. Likewise, another place, 'Can Bas' company property Peter Ventura, has submitted its candidacy and will soon be able to obtain this distinction.

At this time, only ten companies have managed to access this category of Cava of Qualified Area. These have demonstrated the excellence and uniqueness of their places.

With 'Qualified Places' the excellence of the DO Cava is demonstrated

El President of the Regulatory Council, Pedro Bonet, highlights that: “the digging de Qualified Site represents the top of the pyramid of quality of sparkling wines worldwide. In this way, it culminates in a process of global recognition of the excellence of the Premium cavas".

As its official definition indicates, it is the digging obtained from a wine produced with grapes from a specific area of DO Cava. They show their own edaphic and microclimatic conditions. This together with quality criteria in its production and preparation. Promoting a digging of unique characteristics.

The main requirements to access the category 'Cava of Qualified Area ' are:

- VINEYARD: natural harvest, maximum yield of 8000kg / ha, vines more than 10 years old.
- DEVELOPMENT: winemaking on the property. Maximum extraction yield per hectare of 48 hectoliters, qualification of the base wine.
- THE WINE CELLAR: minimum aging of 36 months. Vintage cava, made in brut types, classifying tasting
- MARKETING: specific mark of qualitative control. Comprehensive traceability of the vineyard until marketing

In this way the Cava of Qualified Area is part of the segment premium of the digging. From the Regulatory Council it is being promoted both nationally and internationally.

In addition, promotional actions have been carried out aimed at the main prescribers. This segment premium represents a total of more than 32 million bottles (+ 10,75% over 2016).
