This past weekend the awards of the well-known Barcelona Beer Festival. On this occasion and after not being able to celebrate the contest for the past years, the organizers did not want to wait any longer for the delivery. And it is that they are still looking for the best dates, and the safest, to celebrate the sixth edition of the Barcelona Beer Festival.
The gala of delivery of these Awards has served as a reunion for all professionals, colleagues and friends from the world of craft beer. In addition, the gala has also been seen live on streaming. This formula that was released in 2020 has been maintained this year to bring the contest closer to all lovers of craft beer.
The winners
The great winner of this edition has been the brewery Basqueland Brewing. The Basque brewery has received the award for Best Brewery 2021. Basqueland has been producing quality craft beer since 2005 and is well known to craft beer lovers. Already in 2017, 2019 and 2020 it received the award for the best beer in the Spanish beer championship.
The award for the best Cervecera Novel 2021 who has received the Italian company Mozza Tower. The company located in Rovigo, a town in Veneto, is led by Daniele menin and was created in 2019.
This year, the award for brewing innovation has fallen on the Murcian brewery Beer Chair. This brewing company has created a system of pioneering circular economy in the brewing industry. This is capable of eliminating carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions through microalgae. These microalgae are not in contact with the beer at any time, but they do the process more sustainable.
During the event, the most important in southern Europe, 232 brewers have participated, presenting 1.167 different beers to competition. The rest of the prizes and medals of the 60 categories have also been awarded. The Steve Huxley Lifetime Achievement Award is pending delivery. This will be known and will be delivered to the winner in the room InnBrew. This new event (from July 22 to 24, La Farga de L'Hospitalet, Barcelona) will be exclusively professional.
