Lluc Crusellas named best chocolatier in the world

Lluc Crusellas has become, this past Monday in Paris, the best chocolatier in the world 2022. This contest that awards the World Chocolate Masters is a competition organized by Cacao Barry among the 18 best chocolatiers in the world.

The competition is based on talent, creativity and professionalism working with chocolate. For this, the Catalan Lluc Crusellas has created an impressive figure of an elephant made entirely of chocolate among other jobs.

Crusellas, chosen as the best chocolatier in Spain last year, has been preparing for the competition for two years. The contest consisted of preparing a large sculpture, a small one, a "petit four", a dessert, a chocolate and an end-of-meal treat.

For all this, he moved with a team of architects and 3D designers to the French capital in various vehicles to control the temperature and humidity of the raw material.

And Lluc Crusellas shone

With these words said the president of the jury Amaury Guichon “»I think you perfectly understood the spirit of the world competition. We are looking for an innovative technique that will contribute something to the new generation of pastry chefs and master chocolatiers that will come after you”. In addition, Crusellas stood out for its fine and clean execution, as well as the use of recycling in some preparations, added Guichon.

His impressive figure of the elephant, weighing 170 Kg, wanted to be a symbol of nature and environmentalism that was also awarded by the public for the best showcase.

In this way, Crusellas was proclaimed the winner of the contest where the Frenchman Antoine Carréric obtained the second position. And the well-known Greek chocolatier Nicolas Nikolakopoulos was in third position.

Lluc Crusellas, winner of the World Chocolate Masters contest that is held biannually, has been the first Spaniard to achieve it. He currently works in the pastry shops of El Carme and Pa Vic, near his hometown of Sta. Eulàlia de Riuprimer. He also does it at Pastisseria Barcelona in Barcelona.
