The well-known Estrella Galicia brand has decided to innovate by launching its first beer from Abbey. He does it as a tribute to Sobrado dos Monxes Monastery, also known as Santa María de Sobrado, which is located in the city of La Coruña (Galicia). This delicious drink is the result of the work of two years of the Microbiology Laboratory from the Faculty of Sciences of Ourense of the University of Vigo along with the house brewers. There they were in charge of finding and choosing the native yeast strains within the gardens and surroundings of the monastery to create this special beer with Galician stamp e monastic inspiration. It was not an easy job though, as 58 yeast variants were captured. Despite this, they managed to choose the five best options of all of them, finally betting on one, yeast M29EG.

Estrella Galicia Abadía, sweet and dry taste at the same time

Thanks to this yeast and the other ingredients, such as Candy sugar or Pilsen malt, the result is a dark amber beer, with creamy beige foam, with fruity and spicy aromas. Its flavor is sweet and dry at the same time, it has a medium-high body with the traditional warmth of abbey beers and an alcoholic volume of 7,6º. And, furthermore, in the olfactory phase aromas of stone fruit (peach, apricot, plum ...) and spicy aromas reminiscent of freshly ground pepper are appreciated.

Perfect for you to take at any time or occasion, alone or in company, it harmonizes perfectly with desserts, meats and cheeses. And as they say on the brand's own website it is «a beer as God intended«. In addition, we are not surprised by anything that succeeds, since those of Hijos de Rivera They have already gone out of the way more times, such as a beer with Valencia oranges or a beer with Padrón peppers, which were successful at the time.

Sobrado dos Monxes, a mandatory stop on the Camino de Santiago
