Between Fino and Manzanilla there is no difference

Conflicts continue between DO Manzanilla and DO Marco de Jerez just as we reported a possible fusion last August. Already before the summer, the European Union asked for clarification on the duality of the zone of production, elaboration and aging. At that time, a moratorium was requested to answer the clarifications of the modification of the specifications that cover non-fortified wines. The news jumped on Monday when by 13 votes out of 20 the comparison of the production area with the breeding area was endorsed. Therefore, it is confirmed that between Fino and Chamomile There's no difference.

The same came

All this indirectly ends the coexistence of Fino and Manzanilla de Sanlúcar, as indicated by one of the agreements that certify that Fino and Manzanilla are the same wine.

Thus, it seems that the majority prefer the integration of the two geographical areas, which will lead to expanding the breeding areas. Thus, the well-known triangle formed by the towns of Jerez, El Puerto de Santa María and Sanlúcar de Barrameda will no longer have the exclusiveness for the aging of these wines.

This area would be expanded with all the municipalities in the production area, that is, the towns of Rota, Chipiona, Trebujena, Lebrija, Puerto Real and Chiclana.

For its part, the most affected are the association of Wineries of Sanlucar that they indicated that they are studying to appeal the decision. Those who come out winning the most in the decision are the "vine growers" who will be able to expand the breeding area.

Regulatory Council statement

El Regulatory Council issued a statement which made it clear that the agreement reached by the full wine it is not of immediate application. It is only the position in which the European Commission will be answered and in this way it is the position of the CR in relation to the answers to the questions raised by Brussels a few months ago. We will see if this fusion between wine finally materializes Fino and Manzanilla from Cádiz.
